Hi all,

I know it’s been a while but I’ve mostly been using FB to let you know how things are unfolding. I’m back here to give you news of  new classes I’m making available under the banner of the Song of Self Academy of Music..

Due to the high demand for singing lessons, The Song of Self Academy of Music and Arts is opening its doors to children, teens and adults in a supportive group environment whilst maintaining the standards of excellence students have experienced over many years, studying with Joanne.
These classes, suitable for students of all ages, focus on establishing a firm foundation in voice and performance technique, in a fun and supportive environment. Course facilitators provide high quality tuition with a focus also on preparing for grade exams with the RIAM, for Junior and Leaving cert practical singing exams and for performances.
What to Expect..
You will develop sight singing skills, understand the theory of music, develop aural skills, learn new songs and perhaps perfect songs you have worked on before, become a more confident performer, sing with ease and effortlessness, have fun and feel great.
Tutors
Course Facilitator:
Deirdre Durkan, BSc PDA,FCA MSc is a gifted musician with a broad career spanning many artistic positions which involved her in film, theatre, dance and music. She is also an experienced singer with a passion for music and for sharing it with others. Having studied piano to an advanced level, Deirdre developed her life long love for singing where she has continued to enjoy a diverse and varied career. She has been awarded many scholarships for her involvement in choral music having sung with the Mornington Singers and as a choral scholar with the professional choir of St. Ann’s choir, Dawson st.
Deirdre currently sings choral masterpieces with the RTE philharmonic choir and in st Laurence’s church, Kilmacud, where she has also featured as a soloist. She combines her busy singing schedule with private singing tuition, whilst also balancing her music life with her position in Bord Gais Theatre.
Deirdre and Joanne have been working together since 2014 and they are currently developing repertoire for a recital as part of the newly established Mount Merrion Music Series.

Course Assistants:
Hannah Crowley is a recent graduate of Drama and Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin, where she specialised in both movement and performance.
She is interested in all types of music; specifically the fusion of classical and electronic and is preparing for her Voice Grade VII with the RIAM, under the tutelage of Joanne Harding.
She has worked with teenagers and children both in education and with performance for a number of years and greatly looks forward to sharing the joy of music with prospective students.
Kellie Comerford is a gifted young performer and musician who is embarking on a career in music. Kellie’s interest in all things musical began at an early age where she was selected to perform in a special choir to represent her school at concerts and liturgical events. While in secondary school, her gift for singing was spotted and encouraged by her music teacher and she subsequently became a pivotal voice and soloist for many musical productions and church services both inside and outside school within her local parish.
To date, Kellie has worked as co conductor of a children’s choir which sang at various liturgical services and concerts. She was also employed as music therapist in the Orwell Nursing Home and in St John of God Hospital, with clients with dementia, acquired brain injuries and with non verbal autistic young adults.
Kellie is reading music in UCD, and is currently working towards a diploma in singing under the tutelage of Joanne Harding.
