Glide as the Swan to St. Ann’s.. Thursday 12th November
I was walking through St Stephen’s green on Sunday afternoon, just after doing my weekly dip into choral music with the beautiful and so appreciated choir of St Teresa’s in Clarendon st, when I came across a scene that would put yearning into the hearts of any of us searching for a simple life- 5 swans gliding along the glassy pond, next to a bank strewn with freshly fallen autumn leaves. Looking back at a photo I shared of this mystical scene on my page, I was suddenly reminded of a beautiful piece of music, by Grieg ~ “Ein Schwan”. I first came across it when my beloved first singing teacher, Deirdre Grier Delaney, brought it to me for a singing lesson. I fell in love with it straight away..
A few weeks ago, my student Avril, filled with her usual enthusiasm reacquainted me with the piece…heaven…
I would like to share an orchestral version I came across on you tube.. You will find it at the end of this post…
In the meantime, should you feel inspired, as you are sauntering through St Stephen’s green this coming Thursday 12th November, feel free to glide into our students’ lunchtime concert at 1.15pm in St Ann’s church, Dawson st, where you will hear, among other little gems, Grieg’s ” Solveig’s song”…. See you there!! X Joanne
